help finding a console table for an odd space

Hi all,

Poking my head back up out of lurkdom to see if anyone has any ideas for where to look for an inexpensive console table to fit an odd space.

This is for my home office which is in transition.

I'm playing with paint samples so the walls are going to change to most likely a shade of green/sage. (which means the white trim around the one window will be painted.)

Here is the odd space. Under the bulletin board there, there is a room A/C that has to stay for now. What I want to do is get a table to go over the space so I can put all the electrical stuff that has to be plugged in, cell phone, blue tooth, iPod, etc. And I want drawers (small ones are fine)because I don't have much storage in here.

The wood for my two desks and file cabinet are old oak, like the old teacher desks. They are staying the same as are the bookcases that are close in color.

The windows now have these woven woods on them.

I don't want to spend $500 for a table there. I'm not sure if I should go for a color that looks close to what is there or go for an accent. The ceiling beams are painted white and there is a white chair in the room so I could do a white one. I could also do black. No glass or metal.

The A/C unit is 42" long so the legs need to go on either side of it. (and it obviously can't have a shelf or brace at the bottom.) It is 10" deep but the table can be deeper.

I know some of you are really experts at knowing where to go for shopping for things so I'm hoping you might have some ideas.

Thanks in advance.

First and foremost -- cruise your local Craig's List -- might be something there! It is amazing what folks are getting out of their homes! LOL!

Thanks, Jan. I check CraigsList every day. 85% of our house has been furnished with craiglist finds - antiques and almost antiques.

But I've been searching for a few months now and haven't found a table that would work.

Susan, I have been wondering about you. You have been MIA for a while (or is me?). How is the house coming along. LOL, I think Susan is an expert on Craig's List. Please post some updated pictures when you can.

We had a similar situation and wanted to hide all of our electrical cords, so purchased an Ashley Furniture Glen Eagle Accent Cabinet that worked beautifully. You can "Google" and see what it looks like. (I had trouble posting the pic.) Even though Ashley Furniture is not considered by many to be one of your better furniture dealers, for something like this, that you are going to use for storage and to house your cell phone chargers, etc., this is perfect. And it really is a nice-looking piece that complements our other furniture. I can't remember exactly what we paid for it, but it was around $300, has lots of storage space.

If that doesn't interest you, Overstock.com has a wide array of accent tables and consoles, many for $200 or less, and you can't beat their shipping charge of $2.95.

    Good luck!

OOps. Didn't realize your AC unit is on the floor...so the Ashley one wouldn't work. (Should have had a second cup of coffee before I posted.)

Definitely you should check out Overstock.

Found this that would go w/ your furniture, but it might not be quite wide enough?

Patricia - thanks for the kind words. I don't know how much I've done that's different of late. I've been busy writing more than decorating. I'll see what I have.

uxorial - thank you so much. A couple of those have distinct possibilities. (Of course today I had a decorator out for some help and she had a totally different idea of what to do with the room and now I'm confused all over again.)

wodka - thanks for looking for me!

straitlover - thanks to you too!
