When we installed vinyl over OSB siding(pressed chip plywood), we first installed sheets of rigid foamboard that were an inch thick. That was to insulate the vinyl from the siding so the vinyl did not get too hot in direct sun and warp---if the vinyl is installed directly on plywood, it will warp.

If you have the rigid foamboard installed, you will not need the Tyvek or the felt.

Installing one inch foam to a wall may save you some energy dollars, but it will also make your windows deeply recessed. Consider that appearance before you add depth to the walls. A recessed window is usually an invitation to leaks. When installing more than the weather barrier, it's a good idea to consider a build-out around windows and doors. Wall filled insulation is more value for your money.

A weather barrier over plywood or OSB is very sufficient. Roofers felt AND a Tyvek is overkill. I would be more concerned that flashings are used where needed, not a layer of felt.

The contractor's bid includes two options:
1. Tyvek, 1/4" foam, standard vinyl siding
2. Tyvek, insulated vinyl siding laminated with 3/4" foam

Am I correct to assume that the first option will provide better insulation if the contractor can use 1" foam instead of 1/4" foam? Or is the vinyl siding laminated with foam is better?
