Walkin Pantry: Door goes inwards or outwards

Trying to decide for my kitchen pantry if the door show open into the pantry (which means takes up space inside) or opens out to the kitchen. Any plus or minuses on the two approaches? What is the most common ?

Our current door goes out, against a wall. I think it is a better use of space than swinging into the pantry. In our remodel I'd planned for a pocket door, but DH is against it...he's seen too many old style pocket doors. I'm still hoping to convince him to let me keep it.

Out. Seems to be more common and you won't loose any space inside the closet.

We couldn't put in a pocket door where ours is, so it swings out. Possibly depends on the size of the pantry and what an outswing door might interfere with on the kitchen side. Ours is around the corner from the main work areas, so swinging out didn't cause a problem.

We also did a pocket door. If we hadn't, we would have had the door swing in, since it would have opened onto a wall, not shelving. Opening out would have really been in the way.

Mine swings out. I think out is preferable unless your layout prohibits it for some reason.

Also, I have a light switch thingy in the door jamb so that the light turns on automatically when the door opens and off when it closes. I love that!

Ours swings out. The knob is on the side you usually approach from (the side closest to the kitchen). I would have liked a pocked door, but the wall couldn't accomodate it. The light is on a motion detector.
