I don't think you'll have a prblem if you pick a crown that's not too ornate.

We have very plain crown molding with slab cabinets. I also put in a 1" corner molding underneath the cabinets to hide the lighting and it does look a little more finished.

I think I need to clarify. My cabinets will not go to the ceiling. Cabinets themselves will have minimal crown molding. The crown molding I am concerned about runs through the ground floor of the house, where the walls meet the ceiling.

Why not consider a layered flat stock option for the top of the cabinets? I would think about a 1" x 3" or whatever matches the height of the crown moulding in the adjacent rooms and then a smaller trim, either flat stock again, or something with a slight detail that references the other crown. It can look fabulous and a slight reference to the tradtional side of your home.

Mindimoo, you have impeccable taste so I am trying hard to visualize what you are suggesting, but am not being successful. Have you seen something like this on the FKB, or could you otherwise point me to a photo?

Also, kkupstate, your cabs are beautiful.

Meditated on this while chauffeuring my kids, and I think I understand now, Mindimoo. I'm using Ikea cabs in a black/brown stain, and I don't think it would be hard to color match.
