Well, you have a high contrast look with the natural maple cabinets vs. the black counter and splash. I would suggest a paint color with a medium saturation, between the cabinets and the counters. The 'darkness' or value of the paint saturation should be a medium tone to balance the context. The natural maple cabinets and floors tend to have a 'pinkish' cast, so a red would have enhanced that. I suggest a medium toned warm gray or 'oyster' paint color, which would de-emphasize the red in the wood. Or if you have any other adjacent colors in your context, such as art or furniture with greens in it would be complement well; which could be pulled into the kitchen paint. Good Luck! :)
