how do i add drainage holes?

i find a lot of very cute pots out there and things that are not pots are cute as pots (teapots and cups, etc...) (those thrift stores are gold mines!) but not a lot of them have drainage holes. anybody have an idea on how to chip (or drill or whatever) holes in the bottom of these things? or do i have to buy a special ceramic drill or something?

I've done it successfully with a ceramic drill bit on an electric drill. There's always a risk of breakage so I wouldn't do it on anything really valuable.

As Gentian said, you need to use a ceramic bit... just go slowly, don't put too much pressure on the piece, & let the bit do most of the work...

Be sure that you drill from the INSIDE out and that the outside bottom is well supported.

Is a masonary drill bit the same as a ceramic drill bit? Also what size bit would you use for a craft project such as a tea cup and saucer bird feeder on a rebar?
