Small media/office space help needed

Just moved into a new house and at the top of the staircase is a small bonus room/area that I would like to turn into a media/office space. Our kids would primarily be using it when they bring friends over. I was thinking of sofa/futon for sleepovers. The dimensions are 13' wide by 10'. Any suggestions or ideas would be very much appreciated. I am very challenged with interior design and this site has helped me tremendously.

May I suggest a layout that places the sofa that will sometimes get pulled out on the window wall - it will help the room feel bigger - the window shape and placement can make it feel like a small tunnel otherwise. It has some other advantages noted below - put narrow C (pier one) end tables at both ends so they can be pulled over the low arms . . I would hang graphic print drapery wide of the window so it looks bigger (panels both sides) just for color and accent softness, but also so holiday movie noon you can block all the sunlight. I would turn the desk so that the back of it helps close the room off just a bit since it is wide open. It will help give the room a third wall . . exactly 180 degrees from where it is now, . . . so the person at the desk looks towards the camera - tucked into the notched corner, the desk will not appear so large, but you could do a narrow floating shelf or console down the side wall beside it. You can put the teleivison on the wall where the gaming chair is now, (unless it is linked to the hard drive).

The clutter on the desk will partially be hidden / cords tucked away in corner, the desk chair and sofa will be able to enjoy the television on the wall to the right hand wall, but the seating, drapery and some throw pillows will give you a welcoming feel. I think big colorful art on the wall opposite the tv would be great. Consider a wide, shallow open bookcase / media shelves on the floor below the tv for the gaming consoles and controllers / charging station.

I think the best use of space would be to tuck the desk into the corner on the left (and best place to hide its stuff) and add artwork above (black and white photos would be fun). On the right add a modern tri-pod floor lamp. In the corner, add a low unit (metal locker room cabinet is fun - see picture) to house the tv. On the wall on the right, you can use a trundle (which is more comfy) with lots of pillows, C&B's couch below is an idea and Ikea has a tiny sectional that turns into a double (not a trundle). Add a table/light in the corner and a plexiglass table would keep the room feeling open. Suggest using bright, graphic colors and prints, choose indoor/outdoor pillows, and I would just add a bamboo roman blind to keep the room feeling casual.

If you are going to use the current desk, I might get console cabinet that is similar to it and line the right wall (to the right looking in from where the pic is taken) and line the left wall with the sofa bed.

I might use a grouping of stool/tables for the coffee table. Extra seating when needed or table space...

I love all the ideas. I am thinking of replacing the computer desk with something else, what would you suggest?

A long counter with storage underneath so more than one can sit at the "desk" surface is great for homework. A countertop all along the left wall with a couple of swivel chairs would be neat . . . You could transition to something like a deep bookcase at the right end that would be compatible with a sofa on the window wall .. . put a small stack of drawers that rolls under in the center and a cpu stand at far left.

I'd try painting the yellow walls white and using a couple mirrors to bounce some light off of and brighten the place up!
