The entry used to be a porch..Now not sure what it is now.

We just purchased a recently remodeled mid century modern home in NO CA. They did a very nice job with the interior. Except, I am having a really hard time with the large new entry. They converted a huge courtyard/porch into an enclosed entry/atrium, indoor outdoor room. This is the NEW entry into the home. We have stamped stained concrete (water stains too), painted wood siding as walls, vaulted wood ceiling with 4 huge sky lights. They installed sauna in that room as well. The sauna is going away. Does NOT belong in an entry. Also, there is a sliding glass door going into the main house. HELP. What can I do with this to make it all work and be pulled together? I am in agony...

This is a good use for self leveling concrete if you have the under door sill height to handle a new floor. On the raised spa space consider a boulder and and planter.

If the space can be conditioned you should be able to eliminate the sliding door all together.

An alternative would be to move the step up to the main house just after a reasonable entrance space say 6' deep and then add pressure trt floor joist sized to allow the new floor to be level with the main house floor. Add a large coat closet on the garage wall

This room does have an identity crisis. I would remove the interior sliders. If you can put in a new header and open the space as much as possible. I do not mind the steps up into the living area from what now would be a large foyer. A fountain or boulder (as mentioned above) or both would be nice. Maybe a grand piano as an entry statement.

I would do what has been said above and create an indoor garden. It looks like a huge space - how big is it?

I am so happy, you all agree this room has an identity crisis. The first time I walked into this house was, the sliding door must go and of course the sauna. I love the idea of raising the floor. Boulders and a water element is perfect as well. I do want to maintain "bringing the outdoors in" feel with boulders and water elements as our Eichler and Frank Lloyd Wright followers would approve. Please keep sharing...I am inspired. I also love this website...

The white front and garage doors jumped out at me and aren't very Eichler like. Earth tones are recommended, although I think a bit more color in burnt orange or chartreuse or aqua could be nice too.
