Enclose Screened Porch - do we need to replace the posts

We bought a house two years ago, and we want to enclose the screened porch into a four seasons room. According to the permit records, it was built in 1991. It doesn't have any sidings on the outside, and has been sitting in rain and snow for over 20 years. We are worried that the original posts and headers were exposed too much to the weather and are not in good shape anymore. However, all the contractors we talked to wanted to keep the original framing and just do some minor modification to accommodate the new windows. How do we find out for sure whether the framing is still in good shape or not? Is it hard and expensive to replace the original posts and headers?
