Love the floors! Is it new? or how did you make the tile join wood?

I love this kitchen!!!! Am wanting to do similar floors in my place (SF). Have old tile, and probably wood under. Am guessing that one of your surfaces was old, and one added in? or found that way?

Both the wood and the tile were newly laid. The wood floor is a walnut stain. The tiles are from Home Depot. There is a strip of metal edging that boarders the tile.
