How to save a flower spike.

So my (not so) darling cat decided it would be fun to attack the very first flower on my Empire Returns, taking out a flower spike with at least 25 buds on it. Is there any way to keep it going in a vase?

maybe, by changing the water every day and keeping it in bright light,i have done it before oNE BUD DID OPEN. oops, didn't know I hit the caps.

Thanks for the tip, Jean. I've put it on out back table in a vase so fingers crossed I get something! There are 3 other spikes on the plant but they don't look too great.

Things are slowly picking up here. I've got flower spikes popping up everywhere and my Thanks a Bunch has given me 3 blooms so far. I'm going to save the pictures for when there are more flowering.

Absolutely you can! Just be sure the water stays clean. You will get new blooms every day and only the tiniest buds will fail to bloom. I used to give scapes away at a Farmer's Mkt. when I lived in IL.
