How do you prevent water from spilling/splash into the fire feature

when someone is using the spool it looks like water could spill over into fire. is there a channel behind fire to catch water or what is preventing this from happening?

wow. somehow I just now saw this. I am sure it it too late...but...the water does not flow over - the wall is quite a bit higher than the water level. It may splash in once in a while but it hasn't proven to be an issue. Thanks!
