Don't need to match, contrast. I think butcher block, but don't really cut on it.

I love butcher block counters I have had them in my last 2 homes leave the wood a natural color if oak it will look good with what ever color you choose for the floors. Do not seal the counter it ruins the enzyme in the wood that kills bacteria and I use mine when they start looking a little sad I sand with a very fine sand paper and reoil they come back looking like new. The counters in this pic are now 15 yrs old and still look awesome ( we sold this house to a friend so we see the counters all the time)

I still believe that a good food safe oil is the best choice I almost always see Rubio as a floor finish

I agree with the "it doesn't have to match". I like to see things in the same colour family when working with wood. Example: natural hickory counters look magnificent with mid-tone stained oak hardwood. They both have the "walnut" colouring with gold tones sitting underneath.

I would NOT but Brazilian Cherry (which can run pink/purple) with a walnut (cool browns). As I always say, if you wouldn't put it together on your body, don't ask your kitchen to wear it.
