They could possibly be made from what's essentially a frame with hardboard backing and cork inset, just a guess.

You can get cork wall tiles that are made specially made for vertical applications at AmCork. You can either buy the tiles and make the boards yourself or you can have AmCork make custom sized cork boards with a frame for you.
