I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I am in the Los Angeles area and looking for the same rift/quartersawn engineered white oak with the following specs:

4mm-6mm wear layer

5-1/2" or 7" width

random lengths 3'-10'

square edge

If I can find it prefinished, I would like a very pale silvery gray (almost white) with an ULTRA matte finish (i.e. Bona Traffic HD or hard wax oil).

Does this exist and if so, please point me in the right direction? Does anyone know the approximate cost for this? I will need about 2300 s/f, including the kitchen.

Square edge on those lengths is not to be found with prefinished. You'd be better off going site finished. As far as your specs, it's out there but takes some leg work finding such. Your color choice would likely be custom, but even still there are some high end guys that have some nice color selections. IE: above $15.00 square foot, probably much more with rift and the lengths you're looking for.

Custom Coloring

thank you so much, i thought that was the case regarding the lengths and prefinished. i did find an italian line that is 5-1/2" prefinished with square edges but it comes in 2 lengths: 4'3" and 6'7". that might be the way i have to go, they have some nice custom colors.

the custom color (white accents on gray) on your site looks like it could be what i am thinking, but i do not trust my monitor!

4 1/2" and 6 1/2" lengths aren't bad. Seeing as it's square edge you probably won't notice the lengths as much. Beats the 12-28 inch products. Italian hardwoods are typically very high end.

I don't trust any monitor either, nor anyone elses's. That's why I'll never sell a product without someone actually seeing a sample. Preferably a large one 24 x 12"

no decision yet but stile from italy meets my specs and i have also contacted a local mill for custom and it sounds like they can do it as well. will have to do site finished with that.

tamizami, which mill did you talk to? I'm in the Philadelphia area and interested in rift/quartersawn oak for my kitchen (if I can afford it!) to blend with the beautiful original flooring in the rest of the house. I'm compiling a list of mills to contact - it seems like that might be the best option.
