how did you do walls on staircase and big panel? Drywall? Panels?

The walls of the stair are conventional drywall construction. Panels of 1/2" MDF are adhered to this. Small hanger bolts with acorn nuts are used at the corners of the panels, but the secret is that these are just for show. The big "archway" panels framing the opening to the stair are made of stouter 3/4" MDF.
