Thanks for being our first question! We're excited to join the Houzz community. I'm sorry my answer is just now posting. I must not have hit the correct reply button when I first tried to answer it last week. This project had to “fit” within the existing footprint of the house. The existing kitchen area was relatively long and narrow – about 10’8 x 15’6. We bumped the back of the house out about 5’8, replacing an existing deck to provide for the new enlightened seating area and travel space through the kitchen area to the back mudroom and the front part of the house. This new seating area gets morning sun, creating a fully day-lighted breakfast environment! Please let me know if you have additional questions.
