Is the counter space to the right "broken" to create an opening? It seems like the front is lower?

I thought i had responded to this question early, sorry about the delay. No the countertop is not broken. You are actually seeing the reflection of the backsplash in the granite countertop caused from the under cabinet lighting i have specified for this space.
