It is not a requirement for the water to drop directly at the drain, depending on the faucet which you select the water may hit right in front of the drain which is ok (and 9x's out of 10 this is how it will hit. I think that who is telling you this information is that the faucet hole on the countertop should be centered with the drain , meaning that it would not be installed at one side or the other of the sink. Hope that makes sense!

Thanks, for your information. I will buy the full size fauce then, it will be 2.5 inches bhond the front of the drain.

yes this will be just fine- I use this sink regularly and always put a full size faucet with it. If you went smaller, the pull out would not be sufficient to be able to effectively use your sink to the full potential.

You want to look for a faucet spout that has at least an 8-3/4" arc.
