IMO fake wood and real wood do not work together, why not just a simple 12 x 24 porcelain tile in a plain color that you like and will go withwhat you are planning down the road.IMO painting the cabinets would be my first job and when replacing the counter please delete that curved piece at the end of the island

The herringbone is a nice way to create a change in the space, but I agree putting a faux wood next to an existing wood floor is not advised. A 12 x 24 tile with a herringbone pattern may give you the look you're going for and blend better. Ultra Ceramic has some really nice 12 x 24 tiles that you can grout or leave ungrouted. The nice thing about the Ultra Ceramic is that you get the look of a ceramic tile without the high cost of installing a ceramic.

Keep the warm tones to go with your wood cabinets and create a nice cozy feel, perhaps if you wanted to lighten up the space going with a "greige" would help blend the light counter top with your existing kitchen colours.

Thank you for your feedback. We will get rid of the curve on the island. I will search for a flooring that is not wood. The herringbone pattern pic is tile that looks like wood. But I was worried it would not work next to the other existing wood. So I aim
