Have you had pest control done? If a rodent dies in the walls, the smell is nasty until it decomposes.

I wish you could describe the smell a bit. I mean, every house has a smell to some degree, based on the activities, foods, cleaning products, and other characteristics of the people who live there. But i presume this is something new?

I smell it the most when i approach open the front door. Its driving me crazy! This is you have mentioned. the furnace and air vents can give a weird smell. But when you open front door? There is something outside close to the door. The smell comes in at that time.
