Can i paint the bottom of each step of my stairs in my foyer a color other than white?

My stairs are the natural color wood on the top of each step, but the bottom of each step is white.

What you are asking sounds like a great idea. Although I have never done it professionally, I have seen it done. It can be a touch "whimsical" but if that is your style - it may be a perfect design detail.
