The list of what you can plant is almost endless - one of the joys of living in the mild climate of the PNW !! And a great many plants that can grow here are deer resistant....or at least not hugely high on their menus. Incorporating a few that are known to resist deer predation among others that are less so can help to keep the damage to a minimum.

I'd suggest you visit one of the better, larger independent nurseries on the island and see what they have on offer. Consider a few smaller broadleaved evergreen shrubs or a couple of dwarf conifers for winter interest and to give the planters some structure. There's even room for a small tree - perhaps a Japanese maple. And add whatever perennials you like and maybe add some vines to soften the street facing trellising.

Deer tend to avoid any ornamental grasses, plants with fuzzy or gray foliage (lamb's ear, artemisias, phlomis, senecio) and plants with strong essential oils - rosemary, sage, lavender and other common herbs, rockrose, beebalm, and santolina. Foxgloves, yarrow, wallflowers and shasta daisies tend to be ignored and euphorbias and hellebores and heaths and heathers are all safe, deer resistant bets.
