I like it as is.

In decorating as in life, I always go back to what makes sense. It doesn't seem like that area is a place where you would just sit down, so why is there a chair there. Usually people know when a space doesn't make sense, they'll say things like it just doesn't feel right or there is something missing, what they're saying is the space doesn't make sense. So I would remove that bench chair. Without being able to see more of that area, I can't tell you what would make sense there. Is it by the front door, so does it need an entry table? Is it just a pass thru area so all it needs is an oversized piece of art? Either post more pictures or maybe that will give you enough for you to decide what that space should be used for and that's how to decorate it. But regardless I can assure you right now that ship lap is never the answer.

Add a console table with a lamp and some greenery

I like a seat in an entry way. It gives guests a place to sit down to put their shoes/boots back on.

And parents to take a seat while they wait for their kids to gather everything up after a playdate. Or kids to wait for their parents after a playdate.

Really liking your ship.

You could make it an accent wall -- wainscoting below and a pale sea/sky blue wall above as a background for your ship. A natural wood finish for the wainscoting could be your "ground"/land brown by the shore.

Paint the one wall a variation of another color found in the house so the spot can relate to your home....an entry usually gives hints of what is to come.....so a fun color found somewhere in the house would be a nice way to go.

Have we seen more of your house? If the sofa, etc. is smooth leather, to me the ship goes in more sculptural direction... the settee could bring it in another direction.... yeh or no?

It could look quite cool to put the ship on top of a faded looking vintage map, just adds another dimension perhaps

Paint! Paint that wall in blue and white horizontal stripes. Blue and white are iconic nautical colors. Then add some fun blue and white patterned pillows to the seating that's already there.

Nay - to the shiplap. Nice bench and nice ship, however, does the ship really belong there? Can you post more pictures?
