cornice boards still in style?

Wondering if window cornice boards are still “ in style”.... trying to update a small living room and thinking about removing two wooden cornice boards, but they do add a little something to the space...... I have mini blinds in the windows

The formality of them is what’s out of style now...most often Roman shades are chosen now for the look of a short framing window treatment but softer. Taking the mini blinds out would also update the windows.

I have the same question. While a concern is if they're still in style, my bigger concern is that I'm trying to visually raise the height of the windows by placing a cornice higher over the frame, and then using a woven shade underneath. If i remove the cornice, the windows will be 10 inches lower. Thoughts?
