What color would you paint the shutters?

Justin Dombrow

Our house needs to be brightened up. We like the brown trim as it goes well with the brick, but we have flexibility to update the shutters (within HOA standards). Any recommendations on paint color or possibly wood / barn wood color shutters?

Thank you!

My suggestions: 1. Remove the shutters. Paint the front door a bright and cheerful color that you love,

    2. Keep the shutters and paint the front door a bright and cheerful color.

It's a beautiful house;it looks lovely. Enjoy it.

Dark blue or the same reddish brown as the pillars. If you change the brown trim to something lighter in a few years, you could paint the shutters a lighter, brighter color.

I like the shutters. And I think you had the right idea with green but just not that green. I'd look for a lighter, bluer sage color.

Something like this. Less somber and more contrast.

I like the shutters but also like Beverly's mock-up without them. The current shutter color almost blends too much with the brick. Something lighter might be better.

An olive green on the shutters.

Your house is lovely. I like the idea of lighter shutters. I would not get rid of them. The color Suzy sent as inspiration would look good, imo. Also, I like the idea of a beige/ taupe color like that of your bay roof. I would not use an unpainted barnwood. It seems too rustic for your house and also will turn weathered gray in short order.

I like the shutters except for the ones on the big window upstairs. Either remove those or properly size them. Some colors to try on below:

I like the darker shutters in grover's first photo. On my screen the other, lighter colors are somewhat distracting.

    Black or charcoal gray.

I think shutters are done well, except for the double window ones, but they are visual overload on your home, which already has a busy brick pattern and lots of architectural elements. I would paint the dormer sides to match the fronts. The porch seems awfully dark. Will the HOA let you paint the ceiling there "Haint Blue? It's a traditional color for outdoor ceilings; they might allow it.
