Brian, I think you have either smooth Crabgrass (Digitaria ischaemum) or Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon). Either one is a weedy grass that is very difficult to get rid of without resorting to toxic chemicals, but solarization would be a good method to try first. If it's infested your lawn, you may need to kill the surrounding lawn and then replant.

Thank you. I am trying Bayer BioAdvanced Bermudagrass Control for Lawns. It is supposed to kill bermudagrass and crabgrass without hurting desirable grasses. So far it DOES seem to be working. The Bermuda grass is browning and the rest of the lawn is green. The bottle does say it will take a few applications and not to do more than 3 per year. But if it saves my lawn I’ll be fine with it taking a year and patience.

I can't imagine bermuda grass growing in Ohio! It is a warm climate grass that will not thrive in zones below 7.
