A few flowers and a bug on Saturday

There is not much in bloom here, but I did photograph a few.

Randall the Runner is reblooming. It bloomed in the greenhouse in April and is now on its second set of scapes. This one is tender in our garden.

Puerto Rican Fence Climbers is supposed to be tall but hasn't gotten very tall for us yet.

Spacecoast Lemon Whiskers is reblooming. We really like this yellow.

We were digging up some selects (to compost them) and Bob found this wheel bug eating a Japanese Beetle. I don't like wheel bugs, but they can eat all the Japanese Beetles they can find. The flower is a seedling--Butter Pecan X Bass Gibson.

Here's a close up of that wheel bug enjoying his meal.

The hibiscus are starting to bloom. This is Painted Lady.

Bob always keeps some pots of rain lilies (zyphyranthes). His grandmother gave them to him years ago.

Great photo of the wheel bug devouring the Japanese Beetle! I don't think I've ever seen a wheel bug here. I like the seedling where the predatory action is taking place. I've always thought about crossing Butter Pecan with a toothy, but I never have. Do the rain lilies always bloom in August? My neighbors usually flower in June.

Never heard of the Wheel Bug so will look it up. I like the yellow color on Spacecoast Lemon Whiskers. Do you move the rain lilies into a greenhouse for the winter? Very pretty pink color.

Debra, the rain lilies start blooming in June and keep on all summer.

Julia, we move the rain lilies into the greenhouse for the winter. Bob puts them on the bottom shelf where they get little light and they sort of go dormant until he brings them back out. His grandmother used to keep them in the basement for the winter (she was in Nebraska).

The Japanese beetles have greatly diminished here. That is typical in August. But always appreciate any depredation of their numbers. Were these openings after a cool night?

So that is what that ugly bug is called. I have seen them here but never knew what they were and a little difficult to look up without the name. Now I can find out more info . Thanks Hoosier_Nan.

Randall the Runner is a nice rebloomed. Hurray for that wheel bug, not sure I’ve seen them here.

I saw a Wheel Bug here a few years back and thought what the heck is chewing on my plants now!?! Fortunately it is a member of the Assassin bug family and only eats other bugs. As big as it is that was sure a relief........Fantastic color on SC Lemon Whiskers and I also like the sunrise colors on your seedling. Nice post with lots of things to look at................Maryl

The bug is ugly lol but how good that they are eating Japanese beetles!

I like the seedling it's sitting on. Spacecoast Lemon Whiskers is a beautiful yellow!

I have had a similar bug that I have seen spearing Japanese beetles. The one here I think had a red band on it, maybe a relative. I don't mess with that guy. I like Puerto Rican Fb, a great color.
