Well Ken and Gardenho, you have gone and done it!! I will never get anything done now!! I don’t have many perennials because I don’t have tons of sun to grow them in. But I will be watching for fun and may post a thing or two.

Wonderfu pics! The Anemone blanda are lovely. I have A. apennina and while nice it does not hold a candle to A. b. I thought I had got A. 'Honorine Jobert' but it turned out to be 'Pamina' - can't be upset about that. The Azalea are terrific.

    Actaea 'Brunette'

    Adiantum pedatum - Maidenhair fern

Annaphalis margaritacea one of our natives.

    Astilboides tabularis

    Aster - I think dumosus

    Artemisia 'Silver Mound'

    Aquilegia Origami mix

Asarum europaeum - European ginger. I really like our native ginger too.

Asarum canadense flowers - our native ginger.

Good idea Ken. And thanks for starting it GardenHo! Nice pics so far!

It will be good to re-familiarize myself with some of my perennials and see what everyone else is growing. I hope we can throw in shrubs and bulbs, too? What about genus name changes? This is going to be fun! lol.

is it just me or is this tougher than the hosta alphabet?..I'll work on my names..I know names but to spell them correctly without checking could be a challenge..the perennial alphabet is so colorful!!

  • oursteelers 8B PNW

No, I’m having a harder time too. I don’t keep very good track of my perennial names. Plus I was a little hosta and rose obsessed this year....poor perennials are probably feeling a little neglected!

in hosta world... our fearless alphabet leader starts a new letter every other day ... and then ends winter with group posts.. such as yellow... blues.. etc ...

sooooo .. it might be time to start the B post ...

and include the letter in the title ... it can get very confusing by the time you have 26+ posts ...

I found more for the "A"s....

Achillea 'The Pearl' ..... I like the flower form on this one. Mine flops and sprawls. Not sure if it's my placement or what this plant does.

I am a fan of A. Silver Brocade too GardenHo also Silver Queen & pontica.

sandyslopes it may be the location or you are being too kind to your Achillea p. 'The Pearl'. Mine is in full sun with lean soil and does not flop. I like it very much too.

rob333 I will have to rescue A. azureum it is getting overwhelmed. The colour is fabulous. I used to have Anchusa and may try it again.

Here is A. tuberosum until you find your pic.

    Allium tuberosum

It is a great pollinator for bees, insects and even butterflies.

Thanks for the compliment, GardenHo - I try to take photos at angles that disguise that it's still what a friend calls a "toddler" garden. Not an infant anymore, but still developing!

Rob, you reminded me of my Allium schoenoprasum - that's one plant I nearly always refer to by the common name because I grow it half for the kitchen and half for the look.

Everyone's lovely gardens are NOT helping me resist seed catalogs!

peren.all/Laurie, thanks for the info. I figured it was my location that caused it to flop. Another "what was I thinking" planting achillea in front of a sprinkler, lol! I did divide and plant some in a drier area last year, so I'll see if that stands tall. ....Love the bee pic!

nicholsworth, funny that I don't feel like I get much sun, but compared to your wooded lot, I guess I do get more.

I’m loving these pictures! What a lovely idea to go through our gardens alphabetically. And I’m getting so many wonderful ideas from all of you.

Arenaria was a new one to me. Now it’s on my wish list for sure! I’m a sucker for tiny white flowers.

sandyslopes, that sky blue winky is beautiful!

Astilbe, NOID. Always gives me a good show, though.

Another NOID. Very tall and grand. This clump was chopped to bits last fall for a trade so it’s not quite up to par in the pic.

Aquilega pink Barlow. My first foray into the Barlow style. The flowers nod in the most shy, enchanting way. I also loved the leaves. They are glaucous and very attractive all year, in contrast to the plain green, rather weedy looking foliage of the McKana’s Giant type.

Aquilega, random self seeded bicolor. My husband loves these, with their showy spurs. He doesn’t usually take too much notice of plants, so when he mentions one, and looks forward to it every year, I take notice! Lol.

Allium karataviense breaking ground. The leaves are prettier than the flowers!

Here the alliums are later, in bloom. Not the showiest, but the foliage makes up for it.

Allium christophii. Such a showstopper! Those enormous heads covered in stars. My little boys love them.

Peren.all, did you lose yours? I can send you some in the summer, after they have died down. I deadhead them religiously, once the seeds are ripe: they would be everywhere.

gdinie I did lose mine. What an incredibly kind offer! Yes please, we can PM and I can either pay postage or we can trade. Thank you!

I am closer to the edge of 4b approx. 45 miles SW of Ottawa. A few hundred miles makes a huge difference, mine never seeded.
