We used Bona with a little (on-site custom) of their Amber tint to make the floors a soft neutral (not at all gold/yellow like an old oil finish would be). We have flooring nailed down in 1937 and new in an addition. They were all (re)finished together, match well, and are just beautiful.

We’re having the same dilemma. What did you end up doing?

How did yours turn out? We are trying to select a color now and having the hardest time getting as light as possible without having too much red/pink shine through.

Had you considered a custom mix of pickled oak with golden pecan, or similar? Did you find that your lighting made any difference (LED soft white vs. Incandescent) ?

Thanks!! Its been a long 10 month reno haha. The floors were my most nerve wracking thing and i’m so happy with this color. They are original 1922 red oak floors and were so orange when we bought it. Bona Warm Gray was perfect for us but i struggled big time picking!

Hi Melissa- I'm dealing with the same craziness. We were told our floors were white oak but they're red. And we want a light, beachy stain. Ugh. But what color did you paint your island?

@Melissa was it Bona warm gray or Duraseal? I’m not seeing a Bona stain in warm gray online!

Melissa, did you use straight warm gray or a mix? Same dilemma here and i dont think your floors turned out too gray at all and you definitely do not see red, orange or pink. They are beautiful.

We just did our red oak floors 2/3 grey 1/3 picked oak to try and do the same.

Our pre-finished gunstock floors were refinished a month ago. We were told ther could be white oak mixed in with the red oak. This is no stain -
