propagate the top .. then get rid of the rest

i suspect media failure as one problem .. such is a water management system ... and when old media fails.. you end up with watering problems ...

i presume you lifted it out of the outer pot.. and water in there???

i also suspect a lack of enough light ... how far is that corner from the windows???..

your plant was abused in the office .. as most office plants are... it was stressed ... you moved to to your house.. more stress ... its not hungry.. fert wont help ...

if you get the top to root... wash out the old pot ... get new media... and go on from there ... it will never look like it used to ... and thats just fine ...

Thanks for the detailed reply.

The corner faces a large sash window so it does get direct and indirect sunlight throughout the day. However maybe it wasn't getting quite enough over the winter months, which would explain why it was happy all through last year but then started to fail when the days got shorter at the end of last year.

The photos were taken a few weeks ago and I moved it into a lighter room to keep a better eye on it while I was waiting for advice, and new green leaves are now coming out, so hopefully I'll be able to propagate it.

What do you mean 'media failure'? I watered it by pouring over the soil, rather than lifting the pot up and watering underneath (I checked that it wasn't sitting in water).
