Redwood or douglas fir for exterior steps?

We have added an addition to the back of the house, with French doors. We are not yet ready to do landscape / hardscape, but need steps in order to pass inspection.

As we're not sure what we're doing with the backyard (for instance, we might put in a deck), there is a chance that whatever steps we put in could be removed in the not too distant future. But there's also a chance that whatever we install will be there for some time.

What wood would you use for the steps in this situation? Redwood or douglas fir? We're in Los Angeles. Thank you.

If potentially any sort of temporary I would use the Doug Fir. No sense spending the bucks on Redwood, in my opinion.

millworkman, I should have mentioned that price difference is $150. With that info, would you still say go with Douglas? And I very much appreciate your help (again) - you've been wonderfully helpful to me over my whole remodel!
