@morganannika Concrete island would not be a good idea especially if he is pouring it in his shop. Most certainly it is extremely heavy. It can be poured in place but will be messy.

Have you thought of creating a geometrical inlay with different silestone colors to break up the seam issue? Some airport floors have patterns you can look at.

Concrete countertops are messy to pour in place and very heavy to transport if poured elsewhere.

Have you considered an inlay pattern with multiple quartz colors to overcome the seam issue? Take a look at some Airport floors where two or more colors are separated with a wave.

First way too big of an island in any material how do you plan to clean it without a walk around it every time . I think if the person building this wants to use his shop then he probably knows more about this than you do. I honestly would try to do something besides concrete and plan on a smaller island for sure . I always tell my clients ,when they want something I don’t think is a good Idea , to just imagine preparing a simple pasta dinner with a sald and see how many steps is takes to do this. Maybe post a plan and see what pops up.

Have you lived with concrete counters? They are a living surface like marble that takes special care. They can be beautiful but are not maintenance free. I also question that size as well as question the possibility of transporting a slab of concrete that size without damage.

The room is HUGE that the island is going in. My interior decorator says it needs to be this big. I'm worried about it, but I think it is the right thing to do (just based on the size of the room). The concrete guy seems to think it's not a problem but the installation worries me. What surface do you suggest? I'm open to anything! I currently own marble countertops on all of my kitchen surfaces (including backsplash) and I love it.
