Is this a custom build? If so yes you can say you want all brick, if a production builder then ask if they have an all brick upgrade. Either way you will be paying for the brick.

Is it normal to put siding in these areas. we only spoke about brick up until this point and now they surprised us with siding in some parts.

There is a thing called "Constructibility". Brick does not float well, so exterior walls on a second floor level that do not have walls directly below them in the first floor level to carry the weight of the brick, are poor candidates to have brick as the exterior wall finish. When designing a brick structure (either structural brick or veneer brick) this needs to be thought out during the design process so the building does not look odd or fake. Brick used as if it were paint fails miserably.

Brick (thin or full) used in non-traditional ways will look odd. Go look at brick houses that were built over eighty years ago and see how the brick is used. Most likely you should use siding or stucco, but like I stated before, it should have been thought out in the design process.

You can do thin brick on the 2nd story. it is applied differently than the stacked full brick on the ground floor
