Hi Laurie- can you show us your slab(s) of Taj Mahal? Taj is gorgeous in any of its varieties but it does vary greatly. That could help determine the backsplash.

I would use the backsplash as a basis to bring more color into the kitchen. Even a muted blue or green would add interest.

Hi Betty Southerland, Thank you for your suggestion. We have a large kitchen, and I'm worried that if we end up not liking the color, it would be super expensive to change. Also, we end up selling our home the buyer may not like the color. Thank you for your suggestion!

Hi Laurie- I urge you to decide on your exact slabs first. Taj is very beautiful and not only the colors, but the “movement” in the stone varies from crackly ice-like to more swirly/linear. Let that be the star, especially if you have a lot of countertops. Then do your backsplash.

@Laurie H - when you're ready to pick out backsplash tile; bring home the "tile sample boards" (not just one tile). Then, before ordering, buy one whole box of preferred tile...because...sometimes the sample board has cherry-picked tiles and does not accurately represent variations. I speak from 1200 square feet of floor tile experience, I still love it but - it looks nothing like the sample board.

Thank you chiflipper! Great advice! I'm still a little puzzled about what will happen with our current backsplash when we tear out the kitchen. I'm also a little worried that the backsplashes may be on back order. But I do think it makes sense to wait.
