Exterior Paint Colors for 1919 California Craftsman Bungalow

Andrea
last year

I’m planning on painting the exterior of my home and would appreciate your thoughts and ideas for colors.

Right now I’m leaning towards a sage green for the body (something like Saybrook Sage) with a warm white trim (in the areas currently white). I’m not sure about an accent color (for the areas that are now green). Maybe be a darker green?

Front Door: the same as the accent color, or something similar to the roof shingles?

Stairs: maybe something different from current brick?

Exposure: West facing

Roof: cedar colored shingles

Our painter uses Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams, and Dunn Edwards paints.

Thanks in advance!

Love Saybrook Sage. Do the trim & door a couple of shades darker than the Saybrook.

Very cute home! Consider steps in a color closer to brick on the chimney. I like the greens in this photo. Good luck!

Ooo la la, I love the green with soft mink accents, but would do door color of chimney brick to tie together.

jck910, I was looking at "High Park" as a possibility for the door and accent color. Wonder if it's dark enough.

jackowskib, Nice colors on that home you posted. Really like the door color. Kind of a bittersweet orange, like your idea, ptreckel.

I think High Park would be beautiful as the HOUSE color. Darker and richer. And then with creamy trim and a bittersweet door.

do you like any of these?

I love a dark stucco too. doesn't have to be black, but you could do a blue/gray, forest green, charcoal, etc.

My mock-up skills are pathetic, but here is a look at a richer olive green body, soft green trim, and brighter door. I agree with jackowskib to darken the steps to the chimney color.

    Celery,

Your first blue rendering looks just like the color we painted the house when we first bought it back in the 80s (wedgewood?). Loved that color!

We've had brown/beige/taupe for the last two paint jobs, so am thinking something different.

    ptreckel,

Darker and richer might be a good option. I don't want the color to look too light or washed out.

Beth, I love the house colors (and house!) in the third picture. That's very close to what I've been envisioning, but wondered if it would be too light in real life. Looks so calm and inviting. That creamy trim is pretty. Do you know the colors?

actually, I did have some color matches for this one.

For white, you could also try Creamy or Alabaster

I like this blue/green color for the front door:

think about doing a wood-look garage door (or paint it to look like this) and add the spanish or carriage style iron hardware. exterior lights, some ceramic pots would also look good

or, the hardware, windows on top and painted the same white. do a nice address plaque

copper would be pretty w/the terra cotta steps

Evergreen Fog is calm, beautiful muted green color.

Hmmm. I'm liking the Evergreen Fog for the body of the house. Accent colors?

    I posted one, above.

the wood garage door would be a nice compliment w/this

    here are others

Love this w/warm brass lighting, (or copper) and some wood accents.

Look up "how to stencil your porch" to get ideas for the steps.

I like a dark trim like Urbane Bronze. Why not get some of these samples and try them?

I like some of these pairings, and the others w/the warmer bronze, gold/terra cotta. I think they would look nice w/your steps. (I also like if you painted them w/a stencil in the creamy white and something like iron ore or one of the others)

And, should you decide to do some natural wood like cedar or redwood as accents

shutters are evergreen. see how nice it is w/the wood?

    If you like lighter colors:

I like all of these too. I actually like the Mineral Gray for the stucco
