How small are you hoping for it stay? I have one in my conifer garden that has been in the ground for about 12 years and is at least 10 feet tall. Also zone 8 in Oregon.

Unless a dwarf cultivar, nothing small about Sciadopitys! And annual growth is quite robust at 12 or more inches per year.

I'd find something else :-) btw, your rhody won't stay 'tiny' for long either.

😂😂 I was hoping for 3 foot tall, 2 foot wide max. Was thinking of a dwarf cultivar. But gardengal has me thinking that my tiny Pachysanthum might grow. Maybe a Cephalotaxus?

The rhody grows quite slowly but could reach as much as 7'x7' in the fullness of time :-)

Gardengal, I I had no idea pachysanthum gets that large. Looks like my problem might be how to contain pachysanthum instead of finding friends for it. I wanted a compact rhody for foliage. Like 2x2. I should have paid more attention to its eventual size….

In my defense, I was a clueless gardener last year… I am going to move pachysanthum to a different location. This changes my plans…

Not with that kind of fuzzy foliage. The yak hybrids will produce somewhat similar foliage but at twice the size you want. They also prefer a lot of sun.
