We'd not be able to comment wisely any other way despite you do not want to the ceiling, as we can't see the cabinet tops. Crown trim detail etc. It CAN look very finished to the ceiling, but we need a picture of that, and the rest of the kitchen , for context: )

#2. I don't like when people put backsplash tiles to the ceiling. Isn't the word "backsplash" supposed to mean the area where cooking happens and things splash? So why put it up to the ceiling? Beats me.

@aem04 The reason to take it up to the ceiling is that it elongates the space, makes your ceilings look higher, and cleaning a wall above a vent hood is not fun, but cleaning tile is relatively easy.

As long as you at least go to 2 you should be fine. Good luck!

It can keep a kitchen from appearing more cut up than necessary, but it is an on site decision within a larger context. : ) of the rest of your "story"
