Awkward empty space in my bedroom!!

I have this awkward empty space in my bedroom. I like a modern, contemporary look but it HAS to be cozy, etc. I only have a couple dollars so please keep it as cheap as possible under $40 if possible. Here's some pictures of what my room looks like now, I might paint the room a light gray and put some frame city artwork up. PLEASE help!!!!!!

It doesn't look like you can place anything in this space you are talking about because of the door.....? It is really hard to give any advice without more pictures of your room. Are you wanting to keep the cube shelf or get rid of it?

Oh and the space is about 4 feet long

Keep the blue and paint an arching rainbow beginning in lower right corner. Is it possible to replace cube with a curved item. The sharp angle emphasizes the starkness of the area.
