What is the material used on the island countertop island? Is it waterproof and can you disinfect it?

This is a kitchen we built. Because it is sealed, it is waterproof, but not used as a cutting board. Cleaned with soap and water, like a piece of furniture. The island is [custom] made of rustic knotty alder (114" x 64") by Rob Estrada at Lakeshore Home Gallery in Lakeway, Texas - just outside of Austin.
