Gigantic master bathroom OR 2 ensuite bedrooms?

Our house has a very large master bathroom (6'2" x 18'10"). Yes it's almost 19 ft long!

It's laid out in such a way that it would be easy to cut a door from one side of the master bathroom to bedroom #2, and then to divide the master bathroom into two very reasonable sized bathrooms (each approximately 6 ft x 9.5 ft).

Our house currently has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, where the master is ensuite and bedrooms #2 and #3 share a hall bathroom that's also used by guests and also houses the washer / dryer (there's no powder room and no separate laundry room).

If I did this conversion I would end up with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, and bedroom #2 would be like a "junior master". OR I could just keep things as they are and have one enormous luxury master bathroom with separate shower and jacuzzi soaking tub.

We are remodeling anyways as the bathroom is very dated, but obviously it would be cheaper to keep the existing floorprint than to divide this bathroom into two. Do you think it's worth it to do the conversion?

For whom is this remodeling being done? You? Or to se-sell in the near future?

If for you, do what you want; if for resale, a 2nd ensuiite might add value, depending on your neighborhood and how long you've owned the house.

I don’t know your family/living situation, but personally I would split and have 2 en-suites. However, I’d try to keep the master larger and a very basic 3-piece bath for the other en-suite. I think it will add more for resale and depending on your family be more functional.

I would definitely split the bathroom.

A large bathroom is a luxury but there is such a thing as TOO large. I think it will be an improvement to cut it down a little...win win..

I wonder if it was originally 2 and a previous owner thought that one was a better idea (looking at window placement)?

I'd split the existing bathroom for both aesthetic reasons (too long and skinny now) and practical ones. But I'd make the master bath bigger, say 10-11' long. You have a great opportunity to split that bath into two very nicely-sized and more proportionate bathrooms. And you can achieve some savings if you are able to design the layouts so that some of the plumbing shares the common wall between the two new spaces.
