Guest Picks: Curvy Coffee Tables
Join one blogger on her search for the perfect curvy coffee table
I have been on a hunt this month for the perfect coffee table to complete my family room — and what a quest it has turned out to be! The range of ingenious and creative designs out there is quite overwhelming. Luckily, I had a few criteria to help narrow the choices: it had to be curvy, organic in feel, neutral in color, kid-friendly and low. So here, for the other coffee-table seekers out there, are the results of my search. — Lucy from Four Walls And A Roof
Carved Wood Coffee Table
This table was my starting point. I loved the Moroccan vibe; it would be great with some floor cushions for extra seating. But I quickly realized that adding yet another wood species into my space would be a mistake.
This is the family room right now. The coffee table needs to tie together the sectional sofa and the Cherner chair, but without taking up too much space. Plus, it has to compete with my beloved (but rather loud) zigzag rug.
Zanzibar Coffee Table
This table also has an ethnic feel to it, resembling Indonesian carved wood. I love the metal details, and the drawers would be so practical. But it's a little dark and heavy for my space.
Meteor Coffee Table
I was drawn to the idea of a burl wood table. It doesn't get much more organic than this. The highly polished roots are so very tactile. But I could envision drinks being easily knocked over on this beauty.
Driftwood Coffee Table
Here's another option for burled wood. This has a rougher finish, but the glass top is better for balancing food and drinks. Unfortunately, glass isn't an option when you have two little boys that love to climb.
Vintage Mid-Century Burl Wood Slab Coffee Table
Another wood option is a table with a live edge. One day I'd love a vast dining table like this, but a coffee table would be a good start.
Stone Slice Table
Many of the companies that make wood tables also supply petrified stone tables. These are stunning, but perhaps they are better suited to a more formal living room.
smart round marble top coffee table
This table is beautifully simple, and the marble fits with my neutral scheme. But, again, stone is cold to the touch, and marble can stain, so it is best saved for a grown-up space.
Oly Studio Pico Cocktail Table
A shell top has the clean look of marble but in a more stain-resistant finish. The curvy legs in this table are distinctive, and the style would fit in a variety of spaces.
Pi Coffee Table
This table has a powder-coated steel top that has a much warmer look than and doesn't stain like marble. Combined with the wood, it has an organic feel that would fit well in my space.
Lily Pad Coffee Table
Then I hit on the idea of multiple small tables instead of a single table. This Lily Pad Coffee Table achieves that effect but is a single piece of furniture. I like the combination of white paint and wood.
Designer contemporary Adelphi Coffee Table
A pair of tables works well too. These have a creamy leather surface, which is the utmost in glamor, but perhaps it is not as practical as my family demands.
Lucent Nesting Tables
Or, I could choose three nesting tables that work together. The shot of turquoise would be great in my room, but the overall effect may be too busy for my liking.
Midcentury Coffee Tables
The Noguchi Table is a classic, and it emulates the same irregular shape as the prior example. I love this piece, but glass is a no-go.
Cute Cut Cocktail Table
These tiny tables from Roche Bobois are also irregularly shaped, like smooth pebbles found on the beach. The metallic hues would add some vibrancy to the space. But, unfortunately, anything that is labelled "price on request" is probably not a good idea for a family space.
Bruno Cocktail Table
By now, however, I was sold on the idea of a metallic finish. This circular table has a beautiful burnished bronze finish that would work well.
Curtis Table, Silver Leaf
DwellStudio gets it right again with this ingenious silver-leaf hourglass table. It also works as an end table if you stand it upright. I love the flexibility of this piece, but it's a little too rectangular for our needs.
Catalan Iron Table
A circular option is this iron table that looks like a vast coffee bean! I'd snap this up in a heartbeat, but it's a little beyond the budget.
Arteriors Malcolm Coffee Table
A similar option is this drum-shaped table in a dark silver iron with brass details. It's the perfect size and shape and is a real contender.
River Stone Cocktail Table, Silver
But I still wanted a little more vibrancy in the room, which has dark walls and a lot of dark finishes. This table has a more silver finish. Apart from the fact that it might look like a meteorite has crashed into my living room, this one pretty much has everything I've been looking for.
Thimble Metal Coffee Table
This hammered silver table could be the perfect solution. A little more classic and refined than the previous option, it has a metallic finish but a beautiful, organic shape and texture. Plus, there are no corners for little heads to bump into. Maybe, just maybe, this table will be coming to a living room near me soon.
