Result: Her new kitchen is similar, with lots of natural light, bright white cabinets, rich wood flooring and a bumped-out breakfast nook flooded with sunshine.
Inspiration: Katrina Goldsmith used the photo above as a guideline when designing a 600-square-foot Santa Cruz, California, vacation cottage.
Result: Open shelves, two-toned cabinets and an exposed wood ceiling deliver a similar vibe.
Inspiration: Gina and Bill O’Hara fell in love with this bathroom by architect Hugh Jefferson Randolph. In fact, the homeowners loved Randolph’s work so much, they hired him to build a custom home for them.
Result: Here’s the bathroom Randolph designed for the O’Haras based on his previous efforts. It’s not identical, but it conveys the same open feel and aesthetic, especially with the chandelier.
Inspiration: This is just one of hundreds of photos that influenced Houzz user hopefulgarden during the remodeling of her 1928 Dutch Colonial home.
Result: A similar dark island with a granite countertop and white cabinets achieve the overall feel she was going for.
Inspiration: Hopefulgarden made notes on photos in her ideabook to keep track of what she liked about them. For this space, she liked the idea of having glass on one side of a large cabinet.
Result: And voilà — she incorporated a similar design element into her new kitchen.

“When I saw the photo, I instantly gained a vision for the odd bump-out on the side of the house,” Powers says. “Because of this photo, we made the bold move to remove the walls and pocket doors, and flood the whole downstairs with natural light. The image was embedded in my brain and was my reference point throughout the whole project.”
