Preview: The Shops at Target Take a New Approach
The big red bulls-eye partners with a handful of boutiques nationwide to offer housewares, accessories and more
I've heard some war stories of shoppers who have braved the opening day of Target's popular designer collaborations. (Dare I bring up the mayhem Missoni for Target wreaked on quiet shopping strips the country over, or is it still too soon?) But Target's upcoming capsule collections mean the company might have finally figured out how to work a collaboration while maintaining everyone's sanity.
The Shops at Target, opening May 6, veers away from the model used in the past of a single big-name designer and instead features products from five handpicked boutiques across the country. Included are a clothing collection from Miami luxury store The Webster, beauty tools from Aspen's Cos Bar and colorful sweet treats from San Francisco's Candy Store. But let's get down to brass tacks: What is there for the house?

Privet Wire House
I'm not sure what I'd use this wire house for, but storing well-loved books or other personal treasures seems like a good place to start. A latch on the front makes for easy access.
Privet House Melamine Tableware
Melamine is a summertime picnic essential, and Privet House's cheery set seems made for easy mixing.
Privet House Galvanized Hurricanes
With the large size clocking in at 16 inches tall, these galvanized hurricanes would provide height and interest to a dining or console table without breaking the bank.
Privet House Galvanized Planters
I'd use the largest size of this galvanized planter to hold a couple topiary trees on either side of a front door. Big planters can quickly drain your budget, but these are inexpensive without looking flimsy.
Privet House Whitewashed Baskets
I've seen the spitting image of these baskets selling for at least twice the price. I'd stock up on these as, in my experience, you can always use more of them around the house.
Polka Dog Bakery Dog Bowl, Food Mat, Ball and Treat Stick
The Shops at Target will also feature wares from Polka Dog Bakery in Boston. While most of the selection is more geared to pups than fluffing your home, I couldn't resist including these punchy accessories. They look both durable and adorable, and I wouldn't at all mind leaving them out for all to see.
So what do you think of Target's latest take on collaborative lines? Will you be at your local store first thing on May 6 or are you crossing your fingers for another big-name collection in the near future?

Sharp chevron gets softened by natural jute in this placemat, while two-sided napkins offer a couple complementary options.
