From skiing in the Swiss Alps to water sports in Key Biscayne, a relocation for a Chilean couple with three small children was a sea change. “They’re probably the most opposite places in the world,” says the husband about moving
from Switzerland to Miami. The couple fell in love with a tropical modern house in Key Biscayne with architecture by Marta Zubillaga and Juan Jose Zubillaga of Zubillaga Design. The white-stucco home with horizontal planks of red cedar had them at hello due to the open interiors kept bright and airy with limestone and marble plus an abundance of windows. “The light,” the husband says, “is something we loved.”
While in Miami on an overseas trip, the wife met with designer Maite Granda, whose style she had seen and liked online. For their interview, the homeowner brought along a photo book she created that essentially offered a roadmap to their family with profiles, likes, sports, and hobbies to navigate through the design. They immediately clicked, and Granda’s passion for designing children’s rooms was a value-added perk that the mother of three appreciated. “She painted a picture for me of each of the kids,” recalls Granda. “She said, ‘My boy is very creative—always building; he loves Legos. My oldest girl is very artistic— always dressing up in costumes, and she likes to sing. And the little one—we’re still discovering her personality.’”

Danielle McClure is the daughter of Catherine Skaletsky, both Boston interior designers at the firm Catherine & McClure. Danielle and her husband, Matt moved into the house and the design process began immediately and took about 6 months to complete. The project involved creating an open concept, which is unusual for a 1960’s, center entrance colonial. Every room was painted, the kids’ bathroom was wallpapered, new window treatments all over, new rugs, and all new furniture. 3,000 SF.

The homeowners had recently gone through a large renovation where they added onto the existing house and upgraded all the finishes when we were hired to design two of their childrens' bedrooms. We went on create the entire dining room and living room designs. We sourced furniture and accessories for the foyer and put the finishing touches on many other rooms throughout the house. In this project, we were lucky to have clients with great taste and an exciting design aesthetic. Interior Design by Rachael Liberman and Photos by Arclight Images

This all-pink girl's bedroom is a dream come true for the teenage daughter of the family. We mixed shades of pink and types of fabric, including a plush bed spread and shiny, vinyl pillows. For a high-fashion look, we added a sparkly "crown" on the cornice board, an asymmetrical chair and a wide, lumbar pillow in a cheetah-like pattern.
