Example of a mid-sized cottage chic white tile drop-in bathtub design in Hampshire with furniture-like cabinets and wood countertops

My 1940s home – the downstairs bathroom

Shabby-chic Style Bathroom, Hampshire

I visited lots of bathroom showrooms, but all of the vanity units I looked at seemed a bit 'chipboardy' and 'plasticy'. In the end, I found this solid oak sideboard in a junk shop, which seemed to fit in better with the style and age of my house. I painted it Farrow and Ball's 'Pelt'. The floor tiles are by Amtico – just glued onto a screeded floor. The sinks were £29 each on Ebay (new condition) and the loo and taps were quite pricey, from the Bathroom Warehouse in Winchester... a local plumber did all the work. Total cost of items (including my huge bath) £1000. Plumbing other £500. Elizabeth Dean
