The staircase replaces a previous one that ran in the opposite direction and cut across the window. It was totally enclosed at ground floor with a door at the bottom. The new flight creates an elegant and inviting connection between the floors. It has an oak handrail and treads, turned and moulded balusters, and panelling to an understair cupboard.
