Inspiration for a timeless kitchen remodel in New York

Point of View, Thousand Islands, Alexandria Bay, NY

Traditional Kitchen, New York

This project involved the design of a new cottage situated along the St. Lawrence River. The new cottage replaces the existing structure, which has been on the property for well over 100 years, spanning multiple generations of the owner’s family. With this growing extended family, the owner wished to replace the old cottage which had unfortunately reached its life span due to cramped space and deteriorated materials. The owner considered the cottage a family heirloom, but needed more space to house their growing family, and sought something special to replace the old cottage. Another particular request of the owners was to have a design that would offer views of the river from as many areas within and outside of the cottage as possible. Nestled amongst its neighbors on Point Vivian, this new cottage packs a punch when it comes to designing for the “view”. A two story circulation space emphasizes the “Point of View”, the name affectionately given to the original cottage years ago by the owner. The new design includes a generous amount of windows, allowing for spectacular opportunities for “view catching” up and down the river. Outdoor viewing features of the house include a two story deck with exterior fireplace, a second floor balcony, and a screen porch.
