Designed by Charlotte Knott of Creative Karpet & Kitchen Designs, Inc. in Leonardtown, MD. This kitchen features cabinets by Norcraft Cabinetry in Portico Cherry with Cranberry Black Glaze finish and Crema Bordeaux granite tops. Challenging areas of this kitchen included the window close to the corner and a steel pole in the middle of the kitchen. As the corner cabinet off the sink was next to the range, we chose to insert a Half Moon Lazy Susan in the blind corner base cabinet. This gave her much easier access to the space in the corner cabinet. We chose to handle the tight corner wall area with an open shelf cabinet for display. The base cabinets were designed around the steel pole which was covered with matching wood panel. A soffit in the same shape was than designed to house the lighting, add interest to the island and make the pole look as though it had a purpose to be hanging around. The old kitchen had wall cabinets above the island which just blocked their view as guests mingled in the kitchen and around the island. The customs were afraid to lose storage space by deleting the wall cabinets above the island, but the newly designed island gave them the storage they needed and opened the space. It is now a great place for the customers and their guests to enjoy conversation and great food. Although they have seating around the island, we chose to have cabinets under the top for additional storage. We included roll-out trays to make the reach a little more tolerable in those cabinets. The custom loves to cook so we needed to house her cookbooks and plenty of spices. (She makes some AWESOME spicy dips too!) Other accessories include, double trash bins, pots/pans drawers, roll-out trays, and tray divider. The customers now have a great view, a great entertaining area, accessories to ease organization and plenty of storage.
