The IKEA desk I already owned. Placing it towards the centre of the room enhanced the sense of space. The vintage tea chest was bought through Gumtree and acts as a side table, while also giving texture and interest to the room. The waste paper bin is an old tin sugar canister bought for a few dollars from a secondhand market. The cane basket was found on the side of the road and stores ribbons for gift wrapping. The wire basket above it was an inexpensive buy from Target. The clock is IKEA. The IKEA wall shelf above was restyled and the old children's books put in a cupboard elsewhere in the house. Visually this enhances the sense of space in the very small room.

Poorly and cheaply built painted bookshelf, built by the previous owner, where the shelves are sagging. There was no thought into where these shelves were placed in relation to the rest of the room.

This was a view of the Living Room Before we Renovated. The room was very dark, because the only lights were 2 Torchieres, which only lighted the ceiling. There was a cheaply built bookcase built by the previous owner. Very Dark 60-70 year old dated parquet floor, that made the whole room look dark and smaller. Look at the left hand wall which shows the terrible paint job.

Set in the forest this production built home’s only feature was an uninteresting old cheaply built kitchen space and family room. Working with the existing small space to create better flow and functionality was accomplished by removing the island and reworking the appliance locations. Strategically located multi use counter areas including an eating bar maximized the prepping, cooking, cleaning and commenting functions, while soft close slides, dove tail drawers and plywood cabinets ensure a the longevity of the kitchen. An underutilized desk area was completely reorganized to provide display space and storage for items previously left out in the open. An upgrading of the family room fireplace included a surround and shelving matching the kitchen design. Halogen lighting, puck lights and designer pendant lights all managed with dimmers allows the changing of the moods to suite the exterior lighting which can be dark due to it’s location. The mixed use of white cabinets and counters with Stainless steel fixtures and appliances give a lighter feel. The dark slate floors and varied backsplash provide contrast.
